Some Takeaways from the MediaTek Analyst Event

Last week Signals Research Group (SRG) attended the MediaTek Analyst event in Phoenix, AZ. The event brought together analysts from North America and Europe along with a host of executives from MediaTek.
Highlights of the Report include the following:
Take the AI Train. It is quite remarkable how GenAI/AI is permeating all aspects of wireless. There wasn’t a discussion topic that we can recall when it wasn’t center stage. While we [rightfully] felt Metaverse was all bark and no bite, we can’t say the same for GenAI/AI. However, some use cases may take longer to get implemented, largely due to non-technical reasons while the benefits from other use cases remain to be seen.
Coming Round the Bend. MediaTek highlighted several items in its product roadmap which nicely coincide with some of our test objectives for the coming year, including NTN, uplink enhancements, and RedCap. With respect to RedCap (Reduced Capability UEs), we believe the use cases and end devices are going beyond the original intent. Other near-term Signals Ahead topics include our multi-operator benchmark study, an Open RAN CU-DU lab-based benchmark study, a 5G scheduler study, and a first look at the ability of today’s 5G networks and devices + chipsets to support real-time gaming.
